Days Gone By

It is Thursday and guess what that means? You giving up already? It is time to join in the fun at Mama's Losin' It Blog. On Wednesday she post the writing prompts and we get to choose one or two.. Sounds fun huh? Click on over to join in the fun...

The Prompts:1.) my 10 biggest fears.2.) When I'm upset...3.) Weave a poem that contains all these lines (in no particular order): "I tie the ribbon in a foolish way", "the delicious fragility of this travesty", "where we still laugh and wish".4.) Write about a memory related to a holiday. I choose #3.

Hurriedly, I tie the ribbon in a foolish way.
The demands of the day are calling.
In passing, I glance into the mirror. I pause.
Looking back at me, I see a different version of myself.
Wisp of hair falling from the ribbon, remind me of my youth.
Days gone by, sweet memories flood my mind.

Adulthood, the dream of every child,
comes way to fast. It's made to look sweet.
A yummy treat. Yours to be had with age.
But when did I start sinking into the delicious frailty of this travesty?
When did adulthood over take my life?
What happened to the care free child of my youth?
The girl with ribbons in her hair and a song in her heart.
The adventurous one who didn't plan, or save, or worry?
Where did she go?

As I turn from the mirror - I wipe away the tears.
Tears that fell while mourning for the days gone by.
But my heart is still hopeful because deep inside,
there is a place where we still laugh and wish.
A place that keeps me young at heart when I take
the time to heed to its call.

This little girl is in my class. Isn't she adorable? Don't you just want to squeeze her? She is always smiling and is always cracking us up.

For example -

Me: I missed you when you left early yesterday. I was gone to the office so I didn't get to give you a goodbye hug.

Her: I missed you too. I got a sucker and a sticker.

Me: Did you go to the Doctor?

Her: Yes.

Me: What did the Doctor say?

Her: Um, No More Monkey's Jumping On The Bed.

How cute is that? My aid and I cracked up. She is always saying something funny. The funny thing is she is totally serious. Just one of the many joys of my job.

Wow, that was an amazing poem! When I read the options I immediately thought to myself

"I could not do number 3, never ever could I choose number 3,"

and then I read further and that is the exact one that you chose! No wonder you're a teacher!

So I loved it.

It's funny how different our poems are, but still similar. Apparently those lines evoked a bit of sad nostalgia in more than just me! Great Poem. And thanks for the nice compliments to mine.

I've been seriously impressed with all of the poems...great job!

And that little girl IS adorable!!

ps careful with the kids pics. One of my daycare parents recently found my blog and went off the deep end. I haven't been mentioning anything because quite frankly they're scaring me...but they saw a picture of their son in one of my cooking posts. I had taken a picture and he was in the back corner, unnamed, and they sent me an angry email talking about how they never gave me permission to post pictures of him on my PUBLIC blog. Blah blah blah...just be careful. :)

I always wonder where my childhood went ... wasn't I just in high school? 18 years ago? Really? Where'd the time go?

Love your writer's workshop poem...so true. We live our younger years wishing to be all grown up and then when we are old, we just want to go back to the stress-free days of being a kid. What's up with that?

That is so hilarious! I love that she said that :) My kiddo is totally into that song and always wags his finger at me when we get to the "no more monkeys" part!
