The Fabulous 50's

The writing assignment I chose this week is: If I could live in any era of history, what would it be -- list 10 reasons why! To read more writing assignment post.. Click on over here!

While I love the day and age I live in now.. I think that I would love to live in the 1950's! I think it would be fun to go back to simpler times.. Some of the reasons I think I would love the 50's are:

1. The Dancing

2. Simple, yet sophisticated fashio
n

“For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.” -Hepburn

3. The Mickey Mouse Club.

Oh, How I would have loved to be a member of the original Mickey Mouse Club. Even as an adult, I love all things Mickey. M-I-C-K-E-Y MOUSE! Sing it with me...

4. Drive In movies...

We had a drive in movie in our town for the longest time. I used to love to go to them.. I love the whole atmosphere.. But I love older movies that depict them. Even though it was fun in the 90's I think it would have been way more fun in the 50's

5. The Television shows..

I Love Lucy
Leave It To Beaver
The Adventures of Ozzy and Harriet
Father Knows Best

I love all of these fabulous television shows. I could watch them over and over again...

6. Diners

I love everything about Diners. I love the menu. Who don't love Burgers and Shakes. I love the Juke Boxes. The checkered floors. I love it all...

7. Stay At Home Housewife's..

Okay- Please do not judge. I am all for women's rights. I just love how the 50's housewife's were portrayed. I love how they tended to their little families and got all pretty before their men got home. I really think a good dose of this would actually do some good... but in order for me to be a proper stay at home housewife... I am going to have to get married first..and then probably get over my fear of the kitchen..lol.

8. The Music

I love the music of the 1950's.

Nat King Cole- Unforgettable
Dean Martin - That's Amore
Patti Page - The Doggy In The Window
Frank Sinatra - I've Got The World On A String
Bill Haley and The Comments - Shake Rattle and Roll
The Crew Cuts- Sh Boom
Elvis Presley - Love Me Tender
Everly Brothers - All I have to do is dream

I could go on and on...

9. Simpler Times..

10. Elvis

I love me some Elvis. I think I would have been one of those screaming crying girls that crack me up every time I see movies about his life. As a kid I loved Elvis movies. I thought he was so cute.

Oh, what a fun era to be from.. These 10 things are just the beginning. I didn't even mention the baby boom, life in suburbia, white picket fences, the cool toys, safe neighborhoods, new inventions, and the pursuit of the American Dream..

Great post, Becky! I love the 50s era too. Obviously, my parents grew up in the 50s, so a lot of the stories that they share are from that time.
And my mom was one of those screaming Elvis fans that get you tickled. LOL!:) And since we lived in Memphis....she got to meet him when she was pregnant with me. She heard on her radio that he was riding his horse on the Graceland property, so she drove over there. She got to meet him. He was smoking a cigar, and she asked him if she could have it....and in his very Elvisy cool fashion, he took it out of his mouth and gave it to her......Que the screaming! LOL!:) (I was probably doing somersaults and freaking out in her belly.)
Once she composed herself, she ran back to her car and got an envelope and a pen, and went back to Elvis and got his autograph. And that is where that cigar is today...in her autographed envelope. The cigar has his teeth marks in it.
Only in the 50s could that happen. Now a days, you wouldn't be allowed that close to people like say your boyfriend...Blake Shelton. And if you asked for his cigar, you would probably be handed a restraining order.;)

Have a great day, Becky!
God Bless,
Amy:)

P.S. Is this the longest comment in blogging history? Sorry....

What a fun post!!! What's funny is that was always my dream era too - mostly because of the poodle skirts. (o: But, I've always thought the 50's were super fun and I've loved diners or movies or any thing from that era still.

Let's go get burgers and shakes and go to a drive in - wouldn't that be swell?!

Oh - you rock girl! Those were ALL great - I especially agree with the TV shows! Although some shows in teh 80's were pretty darn good and fairly "not naughty" too. :-)

And the housewife thing - hilarious. teehee.

I am quite convinced that if possible, I was reincarnated from a person living in the '50s. I feel so nostalgic for the culture and the time period! I'm so glad someone thinks about it as much as I do! I LOVE the pictures you found!

All great reasons to live in the 50's era but I want to go back further to the 1800's being a girl's of the ton :)

Oh, vacuuming the floors while dressed in a dress, pearls and heals like June Cleaver doesn't do much for me. It's hard enough to clean when I'm in my comfy clothes..

I'm amazed, I must say. Rarely do I come across a blog that's both educative and engaging, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on
the head. The problem is an issue that not enough people are
speaking intelligently about. I'm very happy I came across this during my hunt for something relating to this.
