We Voted

This week in the Pre-K we have read the following books. We have talked about the voting process (as much as you can on a four year old level). It is funny to hear how the little ones interpret things. Today when I was handing out a project for them to do, one of my little guys said, "Teacher can we vote on this"? I thought it was so funny, but I was also proud because voting made sense to them. They got it! I love all of these books but next time you are in the bookstore read through My Teacher For President by Kay Winters. It is so cute. You will love it. The illustrations are awesome too.
Today when the students entered the classroom they were all made to stand in a line and enter the voting booths that we made for them. They looked so cute stepping into the little cardboard boxes. Each was given a ballot and a black crayon.Once they made their decision we gave them an I VOTED sticker.
Vanilla was the victor it scored 15 points while chocolate scored 11. We will celebrate victory on Friday with a vanilla ice cream party! With Sprinkles of course!

What an excellent way to teach them about voting.

In my daughters class they voted on chocolate candies. Krackle bars won. I'm still scratching my head over that one.

I want to try to get some of those books. Although I do not have children, I love children books and like to have some good ones to use when little ones do come visit me. I think including you Pre-K students was such a great idea. I'm shocked the little kids didn't pick the chocolate ice cream! That seems to be a favorite with kids!!

Have you heard of the alphabet books? "A is for America." "P is for Pilgrim."

Very cute. My daughter's pre-k class voted juice (apple, grape, punch). She voted punch, she found out today that grape won. It was a nice opportunity to explain democracy (as much as you can with a 4 year old.

But while in line to vote with me she asked what kind of juice I would be voting for. *L* Too cute.

That is a great "voting" memory for your students. Hopefully, they will not be disappointed when they go to vote for real when they grow up, only to discover that there is no vanilla ice cream with sprinkles involved. Sigh...but in perfect world...That would make the long wait in line a lot more fun, amen?;)

Congratulations on your award! Woo Hoo!:)

Now, on to more important business...I finished Twilight...and have already started New Moon. I am officially loving them! Thanks to you, I now want all of my family to be quiet and let me read. LOL!;) I'm just teasing, sort of.;)

Have a great weekend!
Big hugs,
Amy:)
