Thank You/ What Cha' Reading?

Thank you to all the men and women who have served and to all of those serving now.. I am forever grateful. You service to our Country is an amazing sacrifice that does not go unnoticed by me. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

Be warned! Like me, this post is all over the place..lol.

In the summer of 1996 someone bought me, The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. I remember being so into the book. I remember laughing, crying, and hurting with the characters. After this book I was hooked. Soon after I purchased Message In A Bottle (so much better than the movie) and I think I fell in love with his writing style even more.. Since then I have read everyone of his books. I even stalk his website to read about his up and coming books..needless to say, I was super excited when his newest book The Lucky One came out.. One of my buddies actually bought it for my birthday! Thank You Emily.. Anyway I couldn't jump right into because I was spending my nights with Edward and Bella..but I started reading this book right after finishing The Twilight Series and just let me tell you... I was so disappointed! I can honestly say, I just didn't like it. I kept waiting for it to get better but it never did! Have you ever read a book hoping it would get better? If so, which one?

Just in case your wondering.. My all time favorite Nicholas Sparks book is A Bend In The Road with A Walk To Remember closely following.. I remember being in my dorm room bawling my eyes out during the last 5 chapters of A Walk To Remember. I was miserable..but I loved it! lol. I love a good book that invokes emotion.

Right now, I am trying to read The Host by Stephanie Myers. I know I know.. It's about Aliens (or something of that nature) and I don't like Aliens (well I love alf and ET but, who don't). Eww, aliens was my first thought.. but I thought I would give it a try because Ew, Vampires is what I thought about Twilight and well you all know how obsessed I became with those books.. I will let you know how it turns out..
Do you guys have any book recommendations for me?

Overheard in my classroom
Child: Teacher, remember my cat?
Me: Yes, I remember you telling me about it.
Child: Well it used to be a girl, but it grew into a boy.
Me: Oh really?
Child: Yeah, you wanna see her? I mean him.
Me: Maybe you can bring a picture for us all to see.
Child: We don't need a picture she's in my backpack.
Me: (to myself) Great.

I can't believe some of you don't know who Blake Shelton is..

AHHH! I just read all the Twilight books and became obsessed with them!! I literally was just thinking to myself...what if no other book even compares to this?? I was slightly bummed. Will you be seeing the movie coming out? I am just waiting to hit Barnes and Noble to buy The Host. I am SO excited. You must tell me what you think of it.

TRIED to get into the Twilight series...i really did. it just didn't grab me. maybe it was all the hype from other peoples blogs...it just didn't match up to how awesome everyone said it was going to be. bummer...so i know how you feel when you are really looking forward to a book and it just doesn't hit the mark. at. all.

Just finished the Twilight series 5 minutes ago... and I can honestly tell you my favorite author by far is Jasper Fforde. If you like to read, his books are FABULOUS and have a great underground cult following with crazy fans all over the world. Seriously... so he has two series, the Thursday Next series and the Nursey Crime (NC)division. He wrote the NC after Thursday Next... those are AMAZING books... seriously... I even named my second son Jasper after him. Brilliant.

I really like Jodi Picoult, she is kind of a controversial topic writer. She takes the topic and spins it. You might like the book Something Borrowed and then there this Something Blue. I can't think of who writes them though...they are really good. And the author has other books that I really liked.

So a cat in the backpack, huh? That must top the list as pretty awesome! Haha!

Ok-Favorite books of all time-"Something Borrowed" and followed by Something Blue". It is not how I would ever live my life, or talk-but these books grabbed me. Everyone I have passed them too (but insisted they give back!) has also put their life on hold to read them...Read them, and tell me what you think. BY Emily Griffen...

Drogonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon. It is the second in this series of time travel through stones in the Highlands. I am having a harder time getting into the second book - loved the first book. I think she is being too wordy in this one. Oh, love the Boelyn books. Those are very good!

A cat at school! oh my! here kitty kitty kitty!

I am a huge Nicholas Sparks fan! I think my favorite is The Rescue For me the on I had a hard time reading was Nights in Rodanthe. It was my least favorite, although I haven't read The Lucky One yet. I'm also a big Anita Shreve fan. My fav book of hers is Fortune's Daughter.

I love the cat story by the way, what did you do? Did you have to call his parents to come get it?

Blake Shelton is your CMT boyfriend, right?;)

LOL! Your little classroom is so funny!

And I loved all the books by Emily Giffen. Something Borrowed and Something Blue (a two book series) were my favorites. They are just "chick lit" books, but you feel like the characters are your best friends in a non-crazy, non-psycho way, of course.;)

And I don't know if you've ever read Bridget Jones, but she makes me laugh out loud. I love her character. It is by a British author, so it took me a couple of chapters to realize that a "fag" was a cigarette..LOL..but it is so funny! I heart Bridget.

Now, I'm off to Edward and Bella.....

God Bless,
Amy:)

A walk to Remember is probably one of my favorite books....so much better than the movie. Nicholas Sparks is in my top 5 authors - for sure!!! I'm finally getting started on the Twilight series myself....LOVE BOOKS!

But I also love Debbie MacComber & Angela Hunt (Christian author) - also Frank Perretti is a fav of mine!

Have you read Maeve Binchy? I love her books. She is my all time favorite author. Evening Class would be a good one to get a sense of what her books are like.

I am laughing about the 'cat in the backback.' That is so funny! What on earth did you do?

And, finally, Blake Shelton is 'HOT,' as my daughter would say! Especially since he cut his hair. And I LOVE his music!

Nicolas Sparks is like the modern day Shakespeare! He always kills off everyone and leaves you in tears. But admittedly, I keep coming back because the love stories are so amazing - and the Notebook is my favorite EVER. (o:

I recommend anything by Jen Lancaster. She has three books out right now - and she is a hilarious writer. If you need a good laugh, definitely check her out!

Laurell K. Hamilton! She is a fantasy/romance (mostly vampire) novelist. LOVE HER! Beware though...if you aren't big on sex scenes she isn't for you.

I love Nicolas Sparks... in fact I just finished "Dear John" -- I know it's not a brand new one, but I feel like if I wait a while in between, I'll always have something to look forward too!!

I gotta say, I just could not get into The Host. I tried really hard. And yeah, that last Twilight book just lost me. I was so upset.

Who doesn't know who Blake Shelton is? That is alarming information...

I love Nicholas Sparks too.

I like Mitch Album also. I just started "The 5 People You meet in Heaven" and I am LOVING it.

The last John Irving book I read was a dissapointment. I can't remember exactly what it was, but I hated it. I loved Cider House Rules though. Did you like that?

I have to admit, the only Nicholas Sparks book that I REALLY liked was The Rescue. I think its because it ended happier than most of the others. But I certainly see the draw.

Looking over your comments I realize there are so many authors that I don't know...and I thought I was well read!!

Lindsay said...

Wow - you rarely hear about books people don't like...especially by Sparks!! Seriously. Bum deal. I don't have any good ones for you, unless of course you've never read through Streams of the Desert. It's a daily devotional, if that's your cup of tea. :-)

And really...music videos had turned me off for a LONG time (thanks to the nastiness that is MTV) but this country buff one is great...that and my man, David. :-) Thanks for sharing!

I CANNOT deal with Nicholas Sparks and his not-happy endings. Love his writing but the ending....meh.

Have you read Water For Elephants? Excellent read ~ I won't mention if the ending was happy :)
