I just love it when my parents say, "Hey, do you have a minute, I want to tell you something". I will admit sometimes I think, Oh, NO! What have I done? What have I said.. but I always listen. I wanna know what my kids say about school at home. So anyway, the mother proceeded to tell me this story.
The other day Mikey (name changed) and I were out shopping. He was begging me to go home so he could play with his new toy that he earned this week from keeping up with his chores and not fighting with his sister. I knew that he was tired but I just needed to go to one more store. I wanted to use my Bath and Body Works coupon that was just about to expire. After a few complaints from Mikey..we were hand in hand headed into the store. It was the first time that he had ever been with me @ bath and body works. I knew that it would be boring for him but I also knew that it wouldn't take me long. As we walked in, I headed straight toward the soaps but Mikey stopped dead in his tracks. I turned back to look at him and he had a big smile on his face. I could see him taking everything in. I asked him, what are you thinking little man? He then said, I love this place. It smells just like my teacher.
I loved that she shared this story with me. It may not seem like a big deal to any of you guys but it warmed my heart. You see, I want everything about their first year of school to be a pleasant experience. I want them to experience everything using every sense. I want them to feel new things, see new things, hear new things, and smell new things. I want them to be so engaged that learning seems fun and exciting. Although, I have no clue what the store smelled like or what triggered him to think that.. I love knowing that his association with me is a pleasant one.

I may have simply missed it, but what grade do you teach? I taught K-5 for 4 years and L.O.V.E.D it -- I feel exactly the same about wanting learning to be a totally engaging and exciting experience -- You must be a fantastic teacher :)
Fantastic story! Glad she shared that with you- it is so easy to forget to share those great moments with those that need and deserve to hear it.
Keep smilin!
Awwwww, that is so sweet!!!
Hey, since smelling nice is a part or the job, maybe you can write those nice trips to bath & body off on your taxes??? =0D
just a thought....
& that was nice of the mom to let you know!
Aw, that's so cute!
That is so great!!! How precious!
That's so precious! What a compliment to you too.. They say that the sense of smell and the memory are closely tied together. That's probably why every time I smell Drakkar Noir cologne, I remember my high school boyfriend and the smell of sunscreen reminds me of my Senior year Spring Break trip. I could go on and on...
Keep smelling good!
That is the cutest thing ever!!!!
Awww...I absolutely love this story! And it's nice to know that you smell good! : )
Great story. Kudos to that mom for sharing it with you.
Now I'm curious. What scent do you wear?
That's my favorite part of teaching--when they make connections with you as a teacher and as a person. I teach high school, and I love it when they say, "Hey, I thought of you because..."
Oh, warm fuzzies! How sweet! And what a wonderful mom to share the story with you.
You know, the one thing I remember about my kindergarten teacher was that she smelled like stale coffee. The smell still takes me back. Eeeewwww.
That is so sweet!
Aww... how cute is that! Very cool to make such an impact on your kids. I'm sure those memories will stay with them forever!
You have a true teaching heart. It's apparent in all of your posts... you love your job, you love the children, and you love the difference you are making in their lives.
:) Kids are amazing creatures, and most people dont give them the credit they deserve.
Bless you for being so awesome!
That really is sweet. What a compliment! And thanks for asking about my book, it's a YA mystery/adventure for girls. I've got a link to it on my sidebar with a few chapters if you're bored. :)

I love this story. I am so very thankful for teachers like you. I am sure you are making a huge difference in these children's lives. I can speak as the parent of grown children who had wonderful teachers, those positive experiences last a lifetime!
Aww that is so cute!
I like what you said about having your kids enjoy their first year and how that is important to you. It is nice to hear a teacher who cares that much about her students and their experience.
This is so cute. I don't think to let teachers know when the kids say nice things about them. What a great reminder. Thanks for sharing.
Awww....that was so sweet. You sound like a great teacher.

That is a great story and I'm so glad this little guy's mom decided to share it with you. Kids are great!
You are a wonderful teacher. I know your students will always remember you.
I finally found the Scripture in II Corinthians 2:15-16 (NIV) that says..."For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life..."
You are a sweet fragrance of life!
I hope my kids have ateacher like you one day... Bath and Body always smells wonderful!
WOW that is sooo sweet! How cute...and now we know you smell great! :)
We need more teachers like you girl!
Aww how sweet:)
That is so sweet!
Oh I love that story - and it is so sweet. Just tonight I was telling dh that if I were a teacher, I would love to hear what they tell their parents they learned in school that day. El got home from Cubbies tonight and said she "learned" about snacks...Mary and some other lady had a baby. The baby was born. That's all.
LOL!
