GASp Prices...

Ugh! I hate when I look down and I see the GAS light blinking at me. I used to never let it get to this point. I know I know, I have heard it all before.. Letting your gas get this low is bad for your fuel pump. To be honest with you I just hate that it has been costing me nearly $50 bucks to fill up my Element. I also know that many of you wish that it only cost you $50 bucks to fill up... My job is 15 minutes down the highway. I have to fill up once a week. With the gas prices here lately my gas budget has went from $120 a month to $200 plus. Folks, that is $80 more dollars then I want to spend..That is $80 dollars that could be put in a purse fund, a perfume fund, a something sparkly for me fund. But No!! Now it is all burnt up driving down the highway....

But wait! What is this? What is happening. Are my eyes playing tricks on me? Is this a cruel joke? When I last went to the gas station.. I couldn't believe my eyes. Gas had went down tremendously. It was like I had ran on to a big sale. I was actually excited to pump gas to see how much I would save... I know, I am a nerd. But I think like this. Seriously.
Gas was only $2.34 a gallon. I was crazy excited! Yeah, so not much has happened this week. Squeal in delight with me. I took out my cell phone, not heeding the warnings of talking on the cell when pumping gas. Which, if it is so important not to do that then why is the warning written in such tiny print? Anyway, back to my previous story...I took these pictures with my phone. That explains the poor quality.. I took them and actually sent them to people. Apparently, it is not this cheap everywhere..
After standing there at the pump. Taking pictures and texting. The pump clicked and I looked up to see that I filled my tank up and it was under $30 bucks. It stopped before this but I pumped it even more. I tried to stop at $28.50 but it went to .52 so I had to pump it up to the next increment of 25..okay, so I am a bit OCD but that is also an entirely different post. Now that I am saving money at the gas pump. I can blow it somewhere else! Whoo Hoo!

Wow, that is great. It has gone down a bit here, not that much...

I can't quite squeal with you...yet. It's still over three bucks here, but I'll take any decrease they'll give me!!!

you should have brought a tank and save more gas for next filling :D

Wow that is PSF worthy..I haven't seen anything start with a 2 in a long time around here. Ahh the feeling one can get from saving money:)..Happy Friday!

When we moved to our town 7 years ago gas was .99 a gallon. Now it's around 3.40!!! I totally get your excitement.

I sound so old. "Back in my day a loaf of bread was a nickel!"

Wendy said...

Yeah the prices have dropped here in the UK too, I don't drive, but Frank went and got a full tank just in case they shot up again!!

I think it is so sad that I went to the gas station yesterday and was excited that gas was $2.65. That is great and all considering it was $4 but $2.65 is still a lot of money for gas. I remember when it was $.99!!! Hopefully it will keep going down...

I'm also excited, ours was $2.32 yesterday when I was out and about. I can't believe it. I seriously thought it would never go down.

Hey Becky... So nice to "meet" you! I am glad you came by Hospitality Lane!

This is such a fun post. I can't wait to come back and read more.

Same thing with me yesterday. I drive a big Ford truck and it was costing us about $110 to fill it up. I never fill up and only put in $50, which was giving me less than half a tank. Yesterday it gave me 3/4 of a tank. And I too used my phone to call my Mom with excitement. The sad part is, our "gas saver" is a Nissan Pathfinder. Not very green of us.:(

This is what I love about blogging. ORDINARY people just like me. The fact that we get a kick out of how much gas costs is a testament to our "down to earth" nature. Keep up the good stuff. GB!!

Sondre Lyn said...

I love that you took pictures with your cell phone to send to people! Really very cute!

I once shut down an entire gas station talking on my cell phone. Apparently, there was some sort of automatic shut off sensitive to cell phone transmission. Incredibly embarrassing!

Amy said...

Purse, perfume, and things that sparkle funds...here Becky comes!;)

You go girl with all of that savings!

And a only a true, dedicated blogger takes pictures even when there are warning signs (in very small print) that speak against using your "picture taking device."

Your dedication to us is so touching.;)

Now, one more thing, just make sure you share with us any purse, perfume, or sparkly related purchases from all of this gas savings.;)

Have a great weekend!
Amy:)

I know....isn't it great?!!!
The other day I had a quarter of a tank and I was going to OKC and I just decided to put $20 and it almost filled up the tank. I think I paid around $2.35! Yay!!!

My husband drives 80 miles each day and the high gas prices were killing us!

tiarastantrums said...

we are still at around $3.20 - some less, some more . . . those gas companies are crying foul right now - can you believe it?

Anonymous said...

YAY!!!! It's $2.59 here which is much better than it was!

Rachel said...

Gas here is $2.75...my hubby said he saw it at $2.65...I love your price better....but since the demand is down the price of oil is down...so I am sure it will go up soon...let's all relish in it for a while!

I too have to stop on a round number...not my hubby though...it's always .01 or .06 something like that and drives me crazy!

Jennie said...

I have to pump it up to the next 25 cents too!!! I thought I was just weird, glad to know that someone else is in the boat with me....

Kacey said...

LOVE this! I called my BF yesterday who lives in NC because she ALWAYS knows where to get the cheapest gas wherever she lives. Here in TN it was 2.61 which is the cheapest I have seen and she said it is still over $3 there. Good for you for fillign up your Element - hey - its the little things that make us happy right? Now I would go shopping with the money I "saved." Ha! Ha!

Christy said...

Gas is dropping to I believe it's $3.12 here in Germany ON POST, I haven't looked to see what it is off post, I know I heard it's dropping there too, but of course they still pay insanely way more than us American's ever have and I'm thankful for that!

I am driving a minivan with a big gas tank (I think it's a 25 gallon tank) and I was almost on empty and I put $40.00 in and it's at 3/4 a tank just a few weeks ago that would have clost me at least $60.00! I'm anxious for the prices to drop below $3.00 here!

amy (metz) walker said...

I think you read my mind! Gas here less than a month ago was over $4.00!!! I paid $92 to fill up my Explorer and then two days ago I filled it up my SAME tank for 52. Wow, what a difference a few cents a gallon make!

Heather said...

You are so lucky that gas is this cheep. Yesterday it was 2.72 here. I haven't been out yet today to see what it is. $25 gave me just over 1/2 almost 3/4 of a tank. (I drive and OLD blazer)

Bren said...

Same here! I was thrilled to fill up my SUV for $50 yesterday.

Gas is $2.68 here! It's getting there! Congrats on the cheap fill up.

Kim said...

I totally understand your enthusiasm for lower gas prices. Ours if down to 2.77 in some places and still 2.96 in others. Hubby was telling me this morning that the midwest gas was cheaper. He's out there working this week and I miss him so much.

Oh and apparently you threw caution to the wind and used a cell phone while pumping gas, you've got extra money to burn, and it's Friday! See it doesn't take much to get me excited these days! Happy Weekend!

Ours has gone down too. I paid $2.45 the other day. This helps tremendously with my long commute to work. I'm the same way with having to stop at an even number. I'm only like that with gas though, does that make me weird?

Lindsey said...

GASP! I thought our gas was cheap at $2.59. Lucky duck!

Gas. Can't live with it. Can't live without it.

LOL - love the post and oh can I relate!

Ours is finally down to 2.67.It hasn't been below 2.85 here in probably a year. We leave town tomorrow and I bet I can find it cheaper 30 miles down the road.

About the sale part- I have not needed to gas up in over a week(I don't have far to drive to work)but I keep wanting to go buy gas cuz it is a deal baby! I have not, but oh am I going to have fun when I do!

LazyCrazyMama said...

I know! Ours was down to 2.69 yesterday!! Yippee!!!

Carrie and Troy Keiser said...

Well glad that it has dropped so well in your area... here we are down to 2.79. That's better, but I long for the days when it was right around 1$ say about 7-8 yrs ago! When you drive huge vehicles like I do you'd be happy to pay under 100 on a fill-up! 42 gals a whack adds up WAY to fast for me ... needless to say, I'm always only feeding the bottom half of my tank!

koopermom said...

I know! I got so excited when I got gas the other day too! Fun post!

tommie said...

It is still $2.59 here, but that is down almost a dollar a gallon. I try to fill up when it is on half a tank so I don't have to cringe as much!

Claremont First Ward said...

WHAT? $2.37. I was thinking....what's the big deal.....that's not down THAT much. Then I realized $2. $2......that's $1 per gallon LESS than here. I'm offically jealous!

I'm soooooooooooooooooo with you on the gas thing!!! I was sooo excited when it started going down! I think I blogged about it two or three days in a row!!! It means a lot to us because Mr. "S" and I car-pool to work!!! We drive 160 miles round trip each day! We leave the house at 6am - he drops me off at work at 7am and he gets to work around 7:40 - then we start all over again at the end of the day....he gets off at 5pm picks me up around 5:30-5:40 and then we are home by 6:30-6:40!!! It makes for a long day but we own our house and we aren't renting a high dollar apartment like before!!!! So we feel sooooooooooooooo BLESSED that the gas prices have dropped!!!!!

"J" said...

PS - Gas at the local store this morning was $2.38!!!!

When I fill up-it is around 100 dollars, and I usually do each week. This gas thing is a pain-I watch the dollars go up fast, and the gallons slowly, and think-DANG! There goes an outfit, a pair of shoes, babysitter money, a pedicure!!!!

Rebecca Jo said...

I'm jealous!!!! Ours is still $2.67!

Jennifer Owens said...

I know! Gas is actually $2.26 by my house. So exciting. (o: More money for shoes now. All that gas was cutting into my shopping budget!!!

Praise the Lord we are starting to see some relief! In our town, it's around $2.89.

Oh, and I totally do the same thing with the increments!

I miss the gas prices in Oklahoma! IT's still 2.69 here, much better, but I'd love for it to get under $2.00.

I got my clogs at Payless, I think they were about $20, they are made by Airwalk. I highly recommend them!

MomOf4 said...

We are down to 2.85 or so. I am guessing that this is just until the election and then the prices will go back up again. I hope I am wrong though! Thank you for visiting my blog!!

That is real pathetic when we think that gas price is good - ya know? I remember when I was fresh out of high school and I would often get gas for 99 cents a gallon. Geesh, what ever happened to those days? I miss it when the gas prices were low, the economy was up and life was good. It is strange because I get pretty excited about the gas prices going lower too. gotta love it!!

Deb said...

i feel ya, sister! if i park my yukon downhill overnight, all the fumes will collect closest to the sensor and i can get my low fuel light to go off, buying me just a little more time.

now, if the prices will just stay down, maybe we can all get our perfume and smell pretty.

I'm so glad I found your blog. I came here from Fordy Days and Nights. :)

I had the same moment of "Whaaa?" when I last pulled in to fill up. Could it be? I may not have to skateboard to the store to afford my groceries?

Enjoy it while you can.... and I say, go for something sparkly!

Isn't it LOVELY?! It's down to $2.29 here now - cheaper than LAST year! Woohoo! I still remember the days in the not-so-distant past that I could fill my car up for $13.00...yes, back in 2000 when it was $.99/gal!! Remember that?! Okay...that really dates me.

Storytellin' Mama said...

I know it is so great to spend a little less at the tank, but I don't know if it's a good thing that it's taking the economy to completely tank to get gas prices down!!

Crazy times!

I'm leaving my cheesey smile! :) Thanks for coming by my place not once but twice and commenting. My hubby and I have been thrilled with the drop in gas prices too. We're in CA so it's still a bit high. Yesterday, with Safeway savings I paid $2.89 vs $2.99. We were over $4.00 here so yes I too am thrilled and really confused. Who am I to question their reasons for dropping the prices? I'm not complaining!

Chris said...

It's not that cheap here -- we're still hovering around 3.00 -- and the refinery is only 5 miles away!

Isn't it GREAT!?! I drove through OKC for work the other day and it was $2.19 at Love's! I couldn't believe it. I was so excited and had to text people about it!

Yes, like you I had to get gas just a day or two ago and it didn't hurt so much. It was nice to not spend $60 something filling up. Instead it was only $45 I believe. It felt so good. And I never ever thought I would say that with gas being over $2.00. I believe I paid $2.69.

Unknown said...

Cool! Our's isn't that lopw yet, but we have made it down to $2.65. :) It was $3.99 just not that long ago.
