I love Thursdays Blog Post. It is fun to be given a topic to write about. If you are interested you can check it out at: Mama's Losin It!! 4 prompts were given and I chose to write about the follow...
Recall a time when you did something to get noticed. Write about it.
My friends and I were always doing something to get noticed. We were a loud and crazy bunch of girls. We were always up to something and the more attention we got the better.. Our favorite time of year was when church camp rolled around.
Every June, we would pack up way to much stuff and head to Kamp Kiamiciah. On the way to camp we would all pray for a cute evangelist (we were super spiritual). One particular summer our prayers were answered. The young preacher was so good looking and he brought a friend. They had barely rolled into camp and all of us cabin 7 girls were in love.
As, I mentioned before, we were a loud and crazy bunch of girls. While we were loved, we were closely supervised because everyone knew we were always up to something. In attempt to get the cute preachers to notice us, we decided to revert back to our elementary days.. We decided picking on them would be the best way to get noticed. We declared a prank war! What a way to get their attention huh? I am sure they were not thinking good things about us as they sank into their water filled beds, or when Easter egg dye was put into their shower nozzles, or coolers of red kool-aid were being thrown on them. The pranks that we pulled on them were all out in the open. Everyone clearly knew who were behind them all..
But we didn't stop there.. We decided if we could pull off the best pranks, that the cabin 7 girls would go down in camp history and our names would be forever etched in the cute preachers minds. We were so dramatic. We schemed and planned every free minute we got. We were armed with all the prank essentials, toothpaste, honey, saran wrap, ketchup packets, toilet paper, eggs. We had declared war against the entire camp. Looking back, I will admit we took it a bit far, but how was I supposed to know that pouring a whole bottle of baby powder into a window fan would send a visiting missionary from Africa to the emergency room? I chalked it up as a learning experience..
Oh, no. A camp meeting was called. Everyone to the tabernacle immediately. The cabin 7 girls all grabbed hands and skipped to the meeting. We had a feeling that we knew what it was about.. but we decided to play dumb. We were right - THESE PRANKS HAVE GOT TO STOP...that is pretty much all I heard.. after that it started sounding like blah blah blah blah to me. After the meeting we headed back to our cabin to devise yet another plan. Operation, prove our innocence. We decided to toilet paper our own cabin. Genius right? If a prank like this was pulled on us, surely we weren't the ones doing all the pranks...
I still remember that night as if it were yesterday.. It was so very dark and all the cabin 7 girls could barely contain our excitement. It was hard to work at hushed tones. When we were finished we quickly got back into our bunks and laughed ourselves to sleep. The next morning, we were outraged? Who would do this to us? We were totally shocked (wink).
We decided to cool it for a few days, with the pranks. We just started following the preachers around. Laughing at all their jokes, acting interested in what they were into. You know all that pathetic stuff.. you do when you are young and totally immature..
Thursday night @ camp was is talent night. All the cabins sign up to perform certain songs, skits, etc. The last skit of the night were the two preachers. They said, they needed some volunteers. Several people raised their hands but no one from cabin 7. But somehow, we were the ones who ended up on the stage.. They told us that we had to stand perfectly still and they were going to wrap us in toilet paper. They were talking the whole time they were wrapping us. When we were completely wrapped from head to toe. They said, since we had already toilet papered our own cabin, they would just toilet paper us. Ugh. How did they know? We thought we were so sly. Then it got extremely quite. I knew something was up so I tried to make a get away but before I knew it, they were throwing water on us. Ugh. Wet toilet paper. We ran screaming after them. They were laughing saying they got the last laugh. The horn was blown. That was the call to return to your cabins. We entered our cabin and it was completely destroyed. But were we mad? Nope, we thought it was cool that the cute preachers had touched our stuff. We were pathetic I tell you.. pathetic. Oh, yeah. We still don't know what they thought when they entered their room but I bet it was something like this, Ugh!!! We just thought we got the last laugh!
We most certainly got their attention that summer. I bet they can't look back on that summer camp without us cabin 7 girls entering their minds... but I am sure it is not thoughts of love, or admiration. More like thorns in their sides, BRATS.
Oh, yeah. That summer we were 17. The next year we were all going to be 18 and camp counselors. It just so happened that year they changed the camp counselor age to 21. Do you wonder why?

You and the rest of Cabin 7 definitely did not go unnoticed by the "cute" preachers.;) Spiritually speaking, of course.;)
You are too funny!

That is GREAT! And even better that you were 17!! I was picturing a group of 13 year olds - too funny, but what a great memory for you and your friends!
Lailani
That was hillarious! The things girls do to get boys to notice them. I can relate.
Awesome camp story. I was laughing at the part about you praying for cute preachers all the way there! The church I grew up in always brought in college kids from other places to teach our Vacation Bible School and us little girls were the same way with them.
This was great, what a good story to start my day with.
PS.. I tagged you with an award today, go check it out...
Have a great day.
What a G-R-E-A-T story... I love it...it brings me back to my summer camp days of cute counselors and scary stories (we were never brave enough to pull any pranks)!!

OMG that was soo funny! Best camp story I think Ive ever heard.
So funny...and so much better than my goofball Baptist youth camp stories (I thought WE were bad...)!
Just out of curiosity, how old do camp counselors have to be NOW?! :)
LOL...that's good...ah to be yound and ...dare I say...foolish!! Great story.
LOVE me some camp stories!
This is a great one!
The shananigans were classics!
:)
That camp story was the best!

All the reasons you list-likes and dislikes are me!!! I started as a middle school teacher, then went to first grade. It was like I was home-the hugs, the silly songs, the cutest bulletin boards-Loved it!!!

Haha, such a fun story. I was boy crazy too and probably could have done the same thing. What fun memories - silly girls and cute preacher boys. (o:
I love that they got you all in the end too!
omg, I thought you were like 12!! ha ha!!
well, its still cute, and Im sure I did stuff just like that to grab a cute "older" mans attention... I just managed to block my memories!! =)
great story, and I loved church camp as a kid, too. boys from other churches were WAY hotter than the ones from our church!
I went to a church camp as a teenager too and this sounds so familiar. But when there were not cute boys to attract (And there were usually no boys) we still played pranks on other cabins. *sigh* Those were fun days.
Poor camp leaders!
This is so funny! I was part of a big group of girls from my church that sounds very similar to you all!
Your post really makes me miss church camp!
that was so much fun to read! Brings back my own camp memories at church camp - we were so bad as well!!
That is the funniest story!!!!! You ruined it for kids that were looking forward to being counselers at 18 too!! hehe!!!
I love how spiritual you are too ..."we prayed for a cute evanglist"....that's hilarious!
Oh, youth camp brings back so many great memories! Love this story!
Oh girl you kill me! I laughed so hard at the visuals you gave!
OMG! That is the funniest story! My friends and I were like that with our own youth pastor, just because he could dish it as well as take it.
I loved youth group times!
haha, that's a hilarious story. It could be a whole book series, like the Camp Sunnyside series.
Did you go back to camp at 21?
I hope my daughters don't read this!
Hi Becky :)
I've never been to camp, but it sure sounds like I missed out on a lot of fun! :)
rue
Oh. My. GOSH. I am laughing so hard! What a funny post. SOOO something I would have done at 17 ;)
Awesome Camp memories you got there. Loved it!
HILL.AR.I.OUS!!!! I love it. The things we did here to get the girls to notice us pales in comparison. GB
I love this story. I never went to camp as a kid, but now wish I would have. Your blog is awesome, I added you to my blogroll.
That is great! Oh the church camp days, so fun!
Great story....Makes me wana go camping
Hilarious!!! Those camp counselors always know who the culprits are!
Holy Crap! [pun intended] Thanks for the laugh... I especially loved the part about the missionary from Africa. Shame on you!
I just discovered Scrapblog.com it is free and you can build from your own or use a template. If you use a template you can move and erase things on it or even add other things it is really fun.
I also used it to make my header on my blog
I love camp stories! My parents never let me go, so I was stuck watching The Parent Trap over and over.
Thanks for sharing your story!
That is hilarious!!! Awesome!
I never got to go to church camp ... or any camp as a kid ... I think that would've been cool.
This was a great post. I too went to church camp and most years did fall in love with a male counselor. On counselor was named Rick C. so all the girls would walk around drinking RC cola at break time. Funny about those cute preachers...I married one!!
thanks so much for stopping by to visit on Thursday! Yeah my husband is such a good sport when it comes to pictures. I don't think it crosses his mind that I'll put them on the internet, but he doesn't care. He knows he's goofy and lovable.
LOVE your camp story and omg too funny because a friend of mine and I toilet papered out own house, SO dumb! lol
Mine is too boring to write after reading yours. What fun you girls in #7 were!
I was going to tell about a time when I was a young teen (probably 13 or 14) ;) and we were at Six Flags and pretended we were deaf.
We knew a little sign language because we had a deaf friend at church and we had taken a sign language class at church, anyway... while we'd wait in line for the rides we'd sign to each othe, pretending to be deaf and people would stare.
Told you mine was boring, not to mention dumb. I'll keep thinking of a better one.
Cute story. You remember everything really clearly. I never went to camp either. My favorite movie to watch with my daughter (besides Legally Blond) is Parent Trap!
Ha! I can totally imagine why they changed the age! :)
Oh my gosh you girls were insane!! I would say this story meets the prompt suggestion a hundred fold.
Jail bait.
