Popcorn Balls

A parent sent popcorn balls to school for her child's snack day. I was so very excited because Popcorn Balls brought back great memories to me.. My aunt made the best popcorn balls ever. I was hoping that the kids enjoyed them as much as I did when I was there age... But there was a huge problem. These things were as hard as a rock and tasted nothing like I remembered. I reluctantly passed them out and began to take pictures of all the hilarious faces they were making as they tried to eat these rocks.. their teacher gave them.. One of the said, "Silly Teacher, this isn't funny, I am hungry."

Okay, so far so good. Not to many problems going on right?

Then it started to get a little harder. Look at their scrunched up noses and squinty eyes. They were seriously trying to get a good bite... It just wasn't happening..

I haven't laughed so hard in such a long time.. I loved how hard they were trying to eat these things I really talked up.. I told them how much I loved them when I was a little girl.

We ended up throwing the popcorn balls over the fence.. I am sure the squirrels were happy.. If they didn't break their teeth.. I pulled out the ever faithful graham crackers and all was right with the world again..

This isn't the first snack catastrophe that I have had in my classroom.. One month not everyone sent snack so I went to the store to refill the snack cabinet.. I picked up a jar of pickles. I thought that would be fun.. You know that big ones you get at the movies.. Well one week when we were studying the letter "P" I pulled out the pickles and my aid began wrapping them in napkins and passing them out.. One kid yelled, Yowee Teacher, these are hot! I thought he was just disappointed we weren't eating oreos.. I said, "No they are not, sit down and eat your snack." Then all the kids starting saying teacher these are so hot. I looked at one little guy and his eyes were watering. I picked up the jar and lo & behold, in the smallest print I had ever seen the words very hot were written above Dill Pickles.. I felt so horrible..

Note to self: Don't have mouthful of coffee while reading Becky's posts.

LOL!:)

Hearing you play up the popcorn balls, they must have been thinking that teacher's teeth were as strong as a beavers. LOL!:)

The looks on their faces is hysterical!

I almost spit coffee all over me and my computer screen when I got to the part about the very hot pickles.

Thanks for making me laugh this morning!

Have a great day!
God Bless,
Amy:)

That cracks me up! Seriously funny stuff! I love it when we think something will work, and it doesn't. Reminds me just how imperfect I am! Those popcorn balls looked seriously hard! I have seen those in the store and had no idea how hard they were!

The pickle story was just as funny. That is seriously something I would do.
Them: "But Momma (or Teacher), it burns!"
Me: "No it doesn't."
Funny stuff!

Did anyone lose any teeth? That post was so funny because I thought the same thing when I tried them the first time. No wonder the houses in the neighborhood get egged when they give out popcorn balls for candy on halloween night. :o) TGIF Becky!

lol, those must not be the ones I remember either. The hot pickles cracked me up.

I've never had a popcorn ball!!! :) The pictures were adorable, and I love the pickle story!

I just love when you share your classroom stories. That is hilarious about the pickles!

I have a very funny story about one time when the kids in my class told me "Jessina" had a rat in her purse. I was like...."Ok, ok..." thinking it was just a little stuffed mouse. No, it was a real, live mouse (rat...whatever....it was alive!). I think her brother had it for a science project or something??) We had to call her dad to come get it. He walked into the other side of the building where the preschool is and the director knew nothing about the situation. The dad said, "I came to pick up the rat." Too funny!!!
I have another not-so-funny one that someone brought one day. I'll save it for another day.

I love the looks on the kids faces eating these popcorn balls.

Thanks for sharing!

I can't believe the Hot Pickles...tooo funny!

I don't like popcorn let alone popcorn balls...I know I am weird...when I was pregnant I forbade my husband to pop it...couldn't stand the smell...every now and then I will eat a piece because it's there but the taste does nothing for me and I hate that it gets stuck in my teeth!

Deb said...

oh these are a hoot! anybody lose a tooth? my kids are always so disappointed when these end up in their treat bags. homemade is probably the key.

Susan said...

Oh my goodness! I would have laughed too, but what in the world did that mom make the popcorn balls with?
The pickle story is funny too.

That is so funny!! My aunt used to make awesome "soft" popcorn balls when I was a little girl.

I taught for years and my worst snack day was when a little girl brought in unpeeled oranges for snack. I could've screamed!!!! Arrrggghhhh!!

Have a great day!!

The pictures are HILARIOUS!!! I cant imagine those tasting good at all! As soon as I saw the picture I immediately thought - there's no way these things can taste as good as the home made ones! Maybe you can do that with them one day & let them see what a REAL popcorn ball tastes like. But those are MESSY! The kids will like that! Those faces are the best!

Lindsay said...

Oh that is hilarious! I wonder if the mom got them on clearance...LAST year! LOL.

The popcorn ball shots are great!

It's not food, but I ordered the movie Jamangi from Half.com. It came quickly in the mail, we opened the movie and inserted it in the VCR, hit play and sat down to enjoy - problem though. It was in Spanish! I never did find on the box where it was a spanish edition though. . . .must of have been in real small print! hehe
